Musical polymath Kid D is starting the new year as he means to go on with the release of his glacial new single “Freezing Cold” – and, with it, the announcement of his sophomore vocal project, Different Elements.
Naturally self-produced by the man himself, “Freezing Cold” is an aptly named winter warmer, and it finds a pensive Kid D reflecting on life lessons, romance and boundaries, set against an undercurrent of soul-infused vocal snatches, percussive triplets, 8-bit arpeggios and pitch-bending melodies. “Why would you play with a donny that’s not even from this planet?”, he rhetorically asks at one point, and the accompanying animations from Bristol-based creative CMHDVisuals lean into this otherworldly theme, resulting in a playful video where the real and the imagined go hand-in-hand.
